    Hi,

please can you recommend oil for the ZX9R C2. I'm thinking about
Silkolene Comp 4 10W40 or MOTUL 5100 10W40. Kawasaki in service manual
recommend 10W40 or 10W50 oil. Is semi synthetic good enough for normal
road use. Also found on the google that Silkolene maybe improves
    gearbox performances.

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Alen

Thick gloopy stuff, often sort of dark in colour, comes out of a
    plastic container.
Is there something wrong with your gearbox performance?

Hmmm didn't know that. Now I know what to look. Thanks.
ZX9 are prone to problems with false neutrals. Found that on '99
Kawasaki recalled bikes to oil change (Silkolene) to decrease this
    problems. People said it helps.
I just bought bike and on first 100 miles found 1 false neutral. I'm
not worried but if I can improve this with some oil why not.

Blimey, I get it on mine, and figured it was just mine, or me being slack
when changing gear. Didn't realise it was endemic.

Oh, I use fully synth (not sure of the make), but clearly it doesn't help.

They are? No more so than any other bike, IME.
    Work on your gear-changing technique.
Because anything that "allegedly" improves the performance of your
gearbox might decrease the performance of something else... your clutch,
    perhaps.

    I ran my ZX-9R C2 on Motul 5100 semi-synth and never found a false
neutral. I just did an oil change for a friend and put the same in her
'98 C1 model. Hein Gericke are still doing their £24-50 oil and filters
deal, I was lucky and managed to find an air filter in stock for her
bike. The air filter alone is about £14, which makes it a very cheap way
    of doing things.

Thanks I think that I'm going also with Motul 5100. I have offer for
oil+filter for 29£ but I will go to see in Hein Gericke.

Hein Gericke supply 5 litres of Motul 5100 with oil filter and air
filter for £24-50, that's why I always buy my oil there for the Bindit
and those bikes I look after. Unfortunately I can't do this with the
Triumph because it takes some weird viscosity oil and original filters
    aren't expensive for that bike.

Even air filter. Is this offer available in every Heine Gericke shop?
My in Nottingham is quite small.

All HG shops do the same deals, but the filters are only available in
the deal if they are in stock. My local shop will let you take the oil
and oil filter for a ZX-9R and if they don't have an air filter they'll
let me have a Bandit one instead.

Luckily, I know for a fact that they have an air filter in stock for a
ZX-9R, so I might pop down and blag it for Elly as my Bandit needs an
oil change soon and I already have an air filter in stock for that bike.

I use Catrol R4 in the Zed thou (same engineish) and the gearchange is as
smooth as silk, plus of course the engine runs wonderfully. Fully synthetic
it is, or supposed to be. It's never needed a top up between oil changes
either and the bike seems to like it.

If the oil has friction inhibitors, it'll help the box but make the clutch
slip if it's a wet clutch.

    Not a guess.

A Bandit 12, for example, run on synthetic oil.

Yeah, but has it got friction inhibitors too? I run the Zed on fully
synthetic, bit it's for wet clutch bikes. There's usually a number on the
tin, but I can't remember what it is. Anyway, if the number is there, it
shouldn't be used with wet clutch bikes. Not that that's much help, mind,
but the "usage instructions" give enough info that getting the right stuff
    isn't hard.
