    Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy one of them. I found one tidy black C1 '98 with 30k
miles on the clock for aprox 2k £? Generally is this 30k to much for
this bike? I read about some CBR/VFR's with more than 100k without
    problems. What about ZX9R?
On the net found that there is a problem related to the carb icing.
Can you live with this in normal life and doe's some additives help in
    this case?
Also there mentioned problems related to the gearbox (3rd gear),
especially with C series. Is this common problem or just isolated
    cases?

Please, if you have experience with this bike share with me.

    Regards
    Alen

I have an E1 model that will hit 30K miles in the next month.

carb icing - its a kawasaki, they all do that sir and unless you ride
when its less than a degree or two then you wont have any issues. or
    at least I haven't.

shock will be fucked but ohlins do a nice replacement.

I know some people who have used fuel additives that dry the fuel - such as
silkolene FST or Wurths petrol treatment which seem to help. I don't have
any personal experience of it myself though. As Adie said, "they all do
    that".

    Bear says...
I sold it with over 30K on it, but the clock did read a lot lower as it
had been replaced before I bought it. Bee sold it a while ago and I
believe it is still going strong, and looks fantastic still.
I never experienced carb icing on my 9R, in fact I've only ever
experienced it once on my 2nd ZZR1100 and I ride most winters.
Throw the 6 pots away as soon as they start to seize and allow the lever
to come back to the bars. Put a set of 4 pots from a TL1000 or GSXR600
    SRAD on it.
Agreed on all counts. The fuel tap is a complete fucker and when it
needed reserve the engine just cut dead on mine, no warning at all.

I sold my E1 to Adie and she's already commented on the shock but
other things possibly relevant are listed below:

Tank range to reserve when ridden fast is about 110 miles (90 on a
    trackday).

Tank range to reserve when ridden gently is about 150 miles.

I changed the front discs to EBC Pro-Lite race discs and always used
EBC HH pads. Some slag these off but I thought they were great.

I fitted a full Akrapovic exhaust system to it and it sounded nice and
    probably went a bit better.

For general use (including fast road riding) I used Dunlop D207RR
tyres front and back with a 180 section rear. The front could be a bit
twitchy due to the change in rear section but it steered a lot faster
and that was what I was looking for.

I never struggled with the fuel tap but I never wear bulky gloves and
that must have made a difference.

They're brilliant bikes and I took mine over to Europe on holiday
several times with no problems at all. It broke into a weave a couple
of times at over 160mph (indicated) when I had panniers on it but that
shouldn't be a surprise. You'll get an indicated 175mph out of an E1
with no problems at all and the acceleration isn't bad for a bike that
isn't really what I'd call a modern sports bike.

I replaced the 9R with a 10R mainly on the grounds that if it was as
good overall as the older bike I'd be well pleased with it. Buy one if
you can find one you like.
