I've been contemplating getting a W650 for a while mainly for
commuting but for some slightly longer journeys (max 200 miles or so)
    - been put off by lack of funds to get a half decent one. However
today I noticed a local tattoo shop has a '94 ZZR1100 for sale - it is
in the sitting in front of the window inside (asking £1400 although
no idea if that is a good price). I thought "hmmmmm looks nice" - had
a sit on it, thought about it and thought I would get used to it -
seemed a fairly comfortable sit although it would take some getting
used to, after riding a 125. Then I found an old article that had
    this (very old) comment:

"So if your prime directive involves getting from point A to B quicker
than any production vehicle without retractable landing gear, look no
    further. " Motorcyclist, May 1993"

I think Ill pass and get a retro instead - if I wanted to experience
sheer terror on a regular basis I would sign up for a tour of Iraq.
I'll pass until I get a lot more experience (done DAS and not sat on a
    "fast" bike since) I think.

I had one, it was bloody lovely, easy to ride & not scary at all. Big &
heavy though, \but also handled pretty well too. I had a mint 95 that I
    paid £1600 for.

  3. True. These days, the terror is in the appalling brakes and chassis, not
    the engine peroformance.

I was waiting for a tale or tow of said 'exchanges'.
Never experienced much in the way of exposure to extreme poverty although I
did live near Mitcham for a while which possibly counts :>)
Hard to argue with armed thieves though.
I just *knew* you'd sample their wares. I've got a mental image of you
sitting at a beachside bar at sunset, sipping a *large* rum with a FO great
ceeeeegaaar stuck in your teeth, smouldering away. Total happiness is...
Cool. Look forward to reading that one.

    Cheers,

    Funny you should say that:

That's what Nick told me, and I tried to pass on to you. It must be
    right, then.

I had loan of one for a week or so while my old B6 was undergoing
minor repairs. At the time I hadn't ridden anything bigger than said
B6. The ZZR was an utter fucking hoot, and I was quite disappointed
to lose the power when I went back to the Bandit (although the
Bandit's handling felt incredible after getting used to the ZZR!).

    I think that's what disappointed me when I tried Judge's ZZR12; I was
nowhere near as quick as I'd expected. Big, comfy, big and comfy, but
open the throttle and it didn't make me shout with excitement.

I'm sure that if I'd had a long enough straight, it would have gone very
fast indeed. By contrast, the Zed's nowhere near as fast, but on the
throttle it's a lot more exciting.

But if I had a continent to cross, I know what I'd choose. The R80.

Mine wasn't. Okay, it wasn't very quick, but it was still terrifying.

To threadmerge, you'd have started using the rear brake pdq if you'd
    ridden it, too.

Blimey, just got an online quote for TPFT from auntie carole - £290.

This is looking like a possibility. Hmmmmmmm. However just checked
on what the ins for a w650 would be and it was £190. Thats only £60
    more than the 125!
