    I have a ZZR-250 with what I suspect is a dodgy ignition barrel and/or
key. My immediate problem is that the damn thing is stuck in "P", and
no amount of gentle, physical or verbal persuasion will allow the key
    to unlock the ignition.

I suspect the key (I only have one) is worn and is therefore not
    unlocking the ignition.

Am I missing something, or do I need to get a locksmith?

  2. Have you tried wiggling the bars back and forth slightly as you (push
down? and) turn the key? Often the weight of the bike pushing on the
front wheel can put pressure on the locking mechanisim making it hard
to unlock, release the pressure and it unlocks easily.

    Cheers,
    Ash.

Drown the thing in CRC first. Then insert key multiple times, change hands
at 100. Could be a stuck plunger.

dump a heap of graphite powder down the barrel then vigorously shove the key
in and out to lube the tumblers <god that sounds awful>

avoid shit like WD40 etc as it will attract dust n dirt etc and reliably
    completely **** it over time

told me by a mechanic and has worked a dream on all my bikes

Graphite powder is way better than CRC for any type of lock,CRC will
atract dust and crap and eventually grunge up the innards of the lock
    mechanism.

Oils will. If it is already gunged up, graphite is not going to free it in
    my experience.

Yes. The ZZR250 (or at least my late model one and so
probably yours) has a 'park' lock at the other end of
    the travel too.

Turn the key back the other way.

GB, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Bloody
    embarrassing, isn't it :-/
